The next family comedy from Netflix, which will premiere on August 25, stars Adam Sandler, his wife Jackie, and his daughters Sadie and Sunny Sandler. The adaptation of author Fiona Rosenbloom’s 2005 book of the same name, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, featuring Sandler, 56, his wife Jackie, and their daughters Sunny, 14, and Sadie, 17, was made available on Netflix on Thursday.

Stacy (Sunny Sandler), a seventh-grader, is seen in the teaser daydreaming about her ideal bat mitzvah and hanging out with Lydia (Samantha Lorraine), with whom she shares the ambition of having ‘adjoining lofts in Tribeca’ in the same building as Taylor Swift.

When Stacy sees Lydia kissing a boy she has a crush on, she breaks their friendship with Lydia and things swiftly go south between the two of them. A sad Stacy is subsequently seen spreading rumours about Lydia on an anonymous Instagram account, which prompts her mother (Idina Menzel) and sister (Sunny Sandler) to intervene and urge her to make amends with Lydia. But Stacy’s sister cautions at one point that her behaviour would lead to the cancellation of her bat mitzvah in general, so her apologies might be too late.

According to the official summary for the film, Stacy (Sunny Sandler) and Lydia (Samantha Lorraine), who have been best friends their entire lives, “have long dreamt of epic bat mitzvahs.” Their ideal plans, however, hilariously go astray when popular boy Andy Goldfarb (Dylan Hoffman) and Hebrew school drama get in the way.

According to the extended summary, the new movie “chronicles the high comedy and modern teen angst that comes with family, friendship, and first crushes.” In the trailer, Jackie Sandler, who has been married to Adam Sandler, 56, since 2003, plays a woman named Gabi who rings the Sandler family’s doorbell while Adam’s character debates whether the party should include a mojito bar off-screen.

Jackie, Sadie, and Sunny have all played roles on television before. Jackie made her acting debut in a brief cameo in Adam’s 1999 film Big Daddy. She has since starred in numerous other Adam productions, most notably in the Netflix film The Out-Laws. Sunny and both of the couple’s daughters have made appearances in The Out-Laws and Hubie Halloween, two Happy Madison films. Additionally, this isn’t the first time Sandler and Frozen actress Menzel have portrayed husband and wife; the two co-starred in 2019’s Uncut Gems as a married couple.

In the new film, Sarah Sherman, Luis Guzmán, Ido Mosseri, Dylan Hoffman, Jackie Hoffman, Dan Bulla, and Zaara Kuttemperoor all make appearances. The movie was directed by Sammi Cohen, who previously made their directorial debut with the 2022 Hulu movie Crush. Netflix will start streaming You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah on August 25.
