The Kakatiyas were the first rulers of Golconda Fort in the early 13th century. The Qutub Shahi kings then dominated the area in the 16th and 17th centuries. The fortress rests on a granite hill 120 meters high, while huge crenelated ramparts surround this structure. Pratparudra of the Kakatiya Empire built it as a small mud fort.
