The Ashwamedha Yajna was organized by King Sagar. As Kapil Muni was involved in intense meditation, Indradev stole the king’s horse and tied it up in his ashram out of concern that if this Yagya was successful, he may lose his position.
The horse was located in Kapil Muni’s ashram after being sought out by the sons of King Sagar. The ashram was being disrupted by King Sagar’s 60,000 sons. All 60,000 of Kapil Muni’s sons had perished due to the Muni curse when he opened his eyes. It is said that King Bhagiratha, also known as the grandson of King Sagar, meditated to appease Ganga Devi in order to have her purify and grant salvation to all of his forefathers’ ashes. According to the history of Gangotri, Dham Ganga first appeared here.
