In India’s history of Sikhism, the Golden Temple’s building represents a significant turning point. The gurudwara was built; its foundation was set in 1581, and it was finished in 1588. Guru Arjan, the fifth Sikh Guru, installed a copy of the Adi Granth the main text of Sikhism within the gurudwara in 1604. At the time, the location was known as Ath Sath Tirath. The Mughal Empire’s emperors and Muslim armies advancing from Afghanistan have repeatedly damaged the temple throughout the years. Each time, the Sikhs rebuilt it.
